Introducing Jenks,
A 14.1hh (145.5cm) 14yr old red roan Kaimanawa pony named after the Kaimanawa Heritage Horses ambassador Elder Jenks.
Jenks is an absolute schoolmaster of a pony who has all the right buttons installed. He is an extremely versatile pony who has had great success eventing with my girls – he is however a very handy Show Hunter and Show Jumping pony who consistently takes home ribbons from the big shows.
We’ve owned Jenks for almost 4 years and both my girls have enjoyed the best times on him. A tonne of fun paired with plenty of rewarding experiences. He’s a wee superstar and I completely trust him with their safety. It’s been a difficult decision to part with him but my youngest rider at almost 16 has finally agreed it’s time to move on to her first hack.
Jenks is a superstar eventing pony who has competed from 65cm to 95cm. He excels in the dressage arena always scoring very highly with his very nice paces, beautiful frame and rhythm.
He’s a very clean showjumper with cute knees and able to take his rider to the fences.
He absolutely loves cross country and his results speak for themselves as he’s finished in the ribbons many times under both girls, most recently winning the John Jones Steel ESNZ 80cm two day event at Eyreton in March 2025. He placed 2nd in the Eventing Canterbury FEI 2 Day 80cm class (Nov 2024), also won the John Jones Steel ESNZ 80cm class at McLeans Island (April 2024). Show jumping results include 1st in the 70cm class at Canterbury Labour Weekend Show, 1st in both the 70cm & 80cm classes at Ashburton Show Jumping (Nov 23).
He’s been a Springston Trophy mount about 6 six times over the past 8 or so years (including with his previous owner) at both the 80cm and 95cm heights. He even won his class in Invercargill in 2021 with my eldest daughter after having had him just six months.
He’s also a very popular Show Hunter pony who has placed in the ‘Rider on Debut’ series classes during the 2022 show jumping season, plus many ribbons in the Canterbury shows.
All the while he has been a dedicated pony club mount who is very versatile whether the rally is games, flatwork, jumping, hacking or horse mastership. He’s competed in countless pony club teams events such as Stringer Trophy (1st in 2024 & 1st in 2023), North Canterbury Champs, Amberley Cup and Windsor Trophy. He’s also competed each year in the South Island Secondary Schools tournaments for dressage, show jumping and eventing as well as tournament week for Christchurch Girl’s High School contributing to the school’s win in 2023.
At home he enjoys weekly forest and beach rides (alone or with company), has had many friends, young kids and beginner riders on him and he is always careful with them.
He’s the perfect mount for a young pony club rider who wants to move onto a competitive, fun and safe pony. He will not be sold unseen and will only be sold to a 5* home.
He’s easy to handle, shoe, float, truck, worm and have his teeth done. He must have a grass free diet.
He will continue being ridden and competed during the current eventing season. Can be sold with bridle and rugs (saddle sold separately).
