Irish National Stud

18-Sep-2015

Hello! A few weeks ago, I paid a visit to the Irish national Stud.... Its home of some of the most famous and expensive Irish racehorses, It really gives you a chance to get up close and Personal with them.

Seeing as the fields were full of pretty little foals, Of course i had to say Hi! With a little persuasion they came right up to the fencing, specifically to see whether or not my Camera was edible. These cute, lanky little colts and finicky little fillie may someday become the leaders of the racing world, and I'll always remember that name from somewhere.

Even though these excited little foals raced right up, their laid back Dams decided it would be best to keep their distance.
Even though, the odd mare or two decided it would be nice to get a scratch so they came right up to say Hello.
Viewing as an experienced bodies, I could see these mares were athletes. It wouldn’t take a fool to know that much. They had long slender legs, and thick, muscular haunches with powerful hocks. they were agile, they were intelligent and the ultimate speed machine. these mares were no joke, They were the real thing.

Next, we passed by Moscow Flyer, Beef Or Salmon And Kicking King. These retired geldings sure were some good eye candy!
You wouldn’t think that these quiet, grass nibbling, fluffy horses would have won over €3 million  between them!

These next horses were not quite sticking with the entire racehorse theme. Instead of 16 hands of pure muscle and fury, power and atheletism, speed and strength, this Knee high Shetland Pony family were quite the outcasts. they were short and tubby, with gruff beards that swayed when they walked, their little hooves so small and tidy, their short stubby manes clotted with mud and debris from rolling in their paddock. Bart, Lisa, Maggie, Homer and Lisa were their names. After a short pat on the head, we moved on towards the Stallions Paddocks. Now here we might the big guns.

On this long tree lined avenue, to our left we came across a mighty black stallion, with the name of Big Bad Bob. this stallion was retired to stud in 2006, and has sired many blooming colts and fillies since then. He is the foal of Bob Back (USA) and Fantasy Girl (IE)
Now, in the paddock beside him came Lord Shanakill. This Bay 2006 stallion was quite a sight. walking by, he was rolling in quite a muddy patch, then he proceded  to throw himself up off of the ground, and in a mighty burst gallop the length of the pasture and back. this was the rea the reason why his stud fee was €5000, everybody wanted a piece of this fabulous stallion. He was By leading US sire, Speightstown, and his First 2YOs 2014 include impressive, unbeaten Dark Kingdom (Ed Walker). With 47% winners to runners first 2YOs including Stakes horse Giacas, he was quite the sire. He has a Sire line of Mr Greeley, Zafonic, Iffraaj and Elusive Quality and is Classic family of Al Bahathri. Half-sister Together Forever won (Gr.1) Fillies Mile 2014.

Now we came upon the last paddock, which hosted one of my all time favourite stallions. this magnificent stallion was Invincible Spirit, Winner of 7 races and €379,275 from 2 to 5 years old. This horse is amazing. He was everything a thoroughbred should be. Currently, his stud fee is €100,000. Quite pricey, eh? the majority of his foals have turned out very well known, and have collected a huge, huge purse between them all. Invincible spirit, a 1997 stallion, is the true image of how a thoroughbred should be.son why his stud fee was €5000, everybody wanted a piece of this fabulous stallion.
some of their other stallions include:

WORTHADD (IRE): Champion 3yo in Italy in 2010
9 wins from 3 to 5 years in Italy and Germany and £698,790

DRAGON PULSE: Winner of 3 races at 2 and 3, in Ireland and France, Highest ever rated 2YO by Gr.1 sire Kyllachy (Sole Power, Krypton Factor etc)  Magnificent motion, incredible strength.  €120,000 yearling
First crop foals sold in 2014 top prices of €95,000 (family of Tiggy Wiggy) , 50,000 Gns, €50,000, €46,000

GALE FORCE TEN: Sale topping yearling, Royal Ascot winner

And that shall conclude my visit to the Irish International Stud.
I can’t wait for next year with a new batch of foals to arrive.
Enjoy these pictures of the horses there.
