Gatcombe 12/9/2015

16-Sep-2015

Last weekend we had Gatcombe Horse Trials. Gatcombe is one of my favourite Events, it is held in an absolutely beautiful setting on Princess Anne's Estate. The views are stunning as you walk the course, you look down on typical English countryside with rolling green hills and stone walls. It is also one of our closest Events, being only about 20 minutes down the road.

This time I had Heather and Alan Cato's Amazing Spy. It was his first time competing at CIC one star level. I was absolutely thrilled with how he went! He jumped really well in the SJ, unluckily just taking the last rail... Then he flew around the XC which I couldn't be happier with. We were actually held on course for at least half an hour, which is very difficult for the horses as it is easy to switch off when you are waiting around for such a long time. Spy was very professional and handled it very well, just picking up from where we left off when we were restarted.

Normally he is a star in the dressage but unfortunately this time when we were riding around the outside of the arena the judge didnt see us and tooted his horn just as we rode past, this really unsettled Spy and we didn't do such a good test. Overall we still ended up 29th out of over 100 horses, which was great for his first one star.
