Meet Oscar, 'Capall Naoise", proficient jumping pony up to 1.05cm, just stepping up to 1.10-1.15 height showing great promise and scope.
Oscar is the type of pony that will not stop, no matter what type of distance or how your kid places him at a jump he will jump it. My daughter is 13 and has just stepped up to 1.10m and he has been such a fantastic teacher for her as he is so forgiving in the ring.
Previous to this season my eldest daughter competed him but with both girls getting so tall we really need to start thinking about Oscars next home.
He has lovely paces, will move well in a frame, has done very well at show hunter (not our main focus anymore) and has jumped around cross country (again not our main focus). He has been to pony club, ribbon days, hunted, many show jumping shows and just been a fun hack around pony for my girls.
He has just started the step up the heights to mini prix, scope to burn but also as i said above, very forgiving! He could take a rail with a bad distance given by his rider, then carry on to the next jump as if nothing has happened!
He has been ridden by school mates as a ring in for events at Pegasus Cup, St Peters school events as well as a pony club spare.
He has a couple of quirks - needs deer fence standards if you want to keep him behind tape (must be electric),and has a wee trick of dropping his shoulder if he's had enough (stops doing this very quickly once he knows the child can stick it - barely ever does it for my girls) he has not been nasty about this but that is his ‘naughty’ quirk, it has never bothered my girls.
He would do so well with a confident kid that wants to move up the heights, very rhythmical and more woah than go if that's what you want (we feed up on sweet feed for the go button.
A very sad sale of a much-loved pony who is yet to reach their full potential, if only ponies grew with their riders!
