122.5cm (12hh) 10-year-old gelding. Registered Part bred welsh.
Sire: Shilston Dinger Tor (Dartmoor)
Dam: Miltondale Gavotte (Welsh/RP)

We have had the pleasure of owning Charlie for 5 1/2yrs and he has been ridden and competed by three of our daughters, giving them the best start to their riding careers. He is a very forward, energetic, fun, but safe pony for a capable and competent little rider. He is not a beginners pony. Charlie competes consistently well in many disciplines and excels at everything he does. He is well known in the top of the South Island.

My youngest daughter was confidently jumping 65cm when she took him over from her sister. He soon took her up the heights to successfully competing at Pony Club SI Show Jumping Champs (85cm) when she was 9-years-old , and to Springston Trophy (80cm eventing) when she was 10.

He consistently competes very well at 90cm showjumping and has done a few 1m rounds. He always comes home with a ribbon. His jumping style is very tidy and careful, he rarely stops or takes rails and is fast and nimble in a jump-off.

One of his passions is cross country and he has won or been placed in many local ODE's at 65 and 80cm. He can be fast on the x-country course, but again he looks after himself and his rider very well. He is well schooled on the flat.

In 2019 he competed at HOY in both Showjumping and Cat A Show Hunter where he did very well and held his own sitting around the middle in most classes. He got into the top ten call back in the 90cm equitation Show Jumping class against 56 other competitors.

Charlie has also been very successful at RTR and is an open pony having had many wins. He attends Motueka Pony Club where he takes part in all activities and has been in all team events, including Dressage and Mounted Games. He has also been hunting which he loved.

When not competing Charlie is used to all aspects of farm life, hacking in the hills and forest, mustering sheep, swimming in the river and having a great variety of experiences which keeps him fit and his mind fresh.

This is an incredibly sad sale of an amazing pony but after 3 1/2yrs of fun our now 13-year-old daughter has well outgrown him. This pony is for a serious competition home with knowledge. He is a top pony who thrives on work, he gets ridden 5 times a week when competing and is treated like an athlete. Considering his size the ideal home for Charlie would be with a family with 2 or 3 keen little riders coming through where he could stay in one place for a few years. If we thought he would be happy staying on our farm we would be keeping him as he is very loved by everyone, but he loves to do a job. He is great to travel away to events and is ready to teach and set up his next lucky rider. Like all small ponies he has a few quirks, but nothing a knowledgeable experienced home won't cope with. Great to truck, clip and for the farrier. He is classed as a 2nd or 3rd pony so only people with confident, capable small riders need apply. Finding Charlie the right home and rider is paramount.
