Vali is a very successful Young Rider/Grand Prix horse, we have had countless wins at YR level and placed in most of our GP starts.
He is an incredibly scopey horse and always has been, we bought Vali as a 2yo and together we have come up slowly through the age series and did a bit of Show Hunter too with many wins/placings.
At 7 Vali was 5th in the NZ 7yo series and clear in the 7yo of the year but unfortunately a gear mishap forced us to retire during the jump off.
At 8 he continued to progress into the YR and GP classes, he was the winner of the ESNZ 8yo series, 5th in the NZ GP series and 3rd in the NZ YR series.
This season at 9 he has continued to be on form and we currently lead the NZ GP series and we were leading the NZ YR series until this new year when I decided to finish my season early. Points of course will change now and he will go down the leaderboard but we have had a great season to this point.
Vali did a lot of SH through his 6yo season and into his 7yo season, he was very good at it and judges often had nice things to say about him, he would definitely be one to go far in this I just choose not to continue it once we started stepping up the heights in SJ. We did however go back to it for one show this season to win 2 classes and take Champion Handy Hunter.
Vali is not a complicated ride, he is very adjustable and clever.
Unfortunately the reason behind finishing my season early is due to an old injury of mine causing pain and discomfort over the bigger jumps, I would love to see how far Vali can go with the right rider, he has the scope to be a serious World Cup horse, or find another rider to continue to succeed at the YR/GP level.
Heartbreaking decision but I can’t take him the next step and believe what’s best for me and my injuries is to have a few seasons at a lower level and get things sorted.
