Coaching
Competing at the top for several years, Matthew has previously represented New Zealand in five Trans-Tasmans, displaying great talent with his first appearance in 1991 where the team triumphed. Eager to prove his talent, Matthew later won the 1992 Australian One Day Champs in Melborne.
In 2001, Matthew won the prestigious Adalaide 4* event, and to this day is the only New Zealander to have ever won. In the lead up to the Beijing Olympics, Matthew demonstrated his commitment to eventing aboard NRM Gordon, representing New Zealand in the 2003 Trans Tasman and winning two consecutive 3* titles at the National 3day in 2005 and 2006, being the Trans Tasman individual winner in 2005.
In 2004 Matthew was named in the Athens Olympic team aboard Revo where the team placed 5th. 2004 continued to be a busy year for Matthew seeing him compete in the World Cup final in Pau, placing 9th individually. These achievements saw Matthew named the Taranaki Sportsman of the Year for 2004.
Matthew has won the New Zealand World Cup Qualifier at Kihikihi three consecutive times in 2004, 2005 and 2006, and placed third in 2009.
Throughout Matthew’s riding career, his Olympic mount Revo was unbeaten in nine consecutive starts proving to be a very talented young horse.
Matthew has a lifetime of experience with coaching and riding, with plenty of enthusiasm to gain results. He is available for coaching between milking cows and looking after his four very high maintenance girls. His enthusiasm to teach will guarantee results are seen for riders.
