Australia and New Zealand are neck and neck in the Oceania Eventing Challenge after another action-packed day at the Land Rover Horse of the Year Show in Hastings. Thrilling Jump-offs and Hot Competition at HOY

South Islanders continue to star at the Land Rover Horse of the Year Show in Hastings, with two of today’s showjumping titles classes heading across the strait. Christchurch’s Johanna Wylaars won the FMG Young Rider of the Year crown aboard Penny and Mike Tapley’s Campari, with Wanaka teen Sophie Fountain blitzing the competition to win the Speed Pony of the Year on My Tirohanga Delight. Taranaki’s Tanya Hansen and Ngahiwi Specter won the Harrison Lane Pro Am Rider of the Year. Six clears from the 25-strong original start list came back for the second round where no one....

Makenzie Fires on HOY Debut

It was South Island all the way in the UltraMox Lady Rider of the Year class this evening at the Land Rover Horse of the Year Show in Hastings. Twenty-two-year-old Makenzie Causer (Christchurch) and her imported mare Dolce Del Colle headed home a classy field to take the honours in the much coveted class at their first-ever Horse of the Year Show. Golden Start for Loiselle at HOY

Kathryn Loiselle turned a ‘warm-up’ class into the biggest win of her career today when she steered Haupouri Drama NZPH to a win in the Norwood Gold Cup at the Land Rover Horse of the Year Show.

The historic trophy is considered the first of the big classes at HOY and one everyone wants their name etched on. “It’s just incredible,” said Kathryn. The plan was to use the class as a warm-up for the Silver Fern Stakes and Olympic Cup, but Drama had other ideas. “I worked her this morning but you couldn’t tell! She was really firing in the first round.”
